Pelora is a mapping and situational-awareness tool for city and town staff. It is in development. This page explains, in plain terms, what information we handle and why.

This website

  • We don't use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
  • Fonts and images are served from our own site, so loading a page doesn't send your visit to anyone else.
  • Our hosting provider, Amazon Web Services, may keep basic technical records of requests, such as IP addresses, to keep the site running and secure. We don't use them to identify or follow visitors.

When you email us

We use your name, email address and message only to reply to you. We don't add you to a mailing list, and we never sell or share your details.

The Pelora application

  • Data a town puts into Pelora (maps, records, documents and staff accounts) belongs to that town. We use it only to provide the service to that town, and we don't sell it or use it for advertising.
  • Staff accounts are created by invitation from the town. We store each person's name, email address and settings.
  • When a staff member chooses to share their phone's location during an event, it is shown to their colleagues on the town's map. Sharing stops when they turn it off.
  • Data is stored with Amazon Web Services in the United States and encrypted at rest.

Email Pelora sends

Pelora sends only email that someone has asked for or needs in order to use the service. We don't send marketing email from the application.

  • Staff: invitations to join their town's Pelora, sign-in messages, and alerts they have chosen to receive.
  • Residents: only when a resident gives their address to their town through Pelora, for example to join a waitlist or follow up on a report. Before anything else is sent, we email a confirmation link, and nothing more goes to that address until the link is used. Every message after that includes a way to stop.

Things residents send in

When a resident sends something to their town through Pelora, we keep the sender's IP address with it to prevent abuse and repeated automated submissions. We keep it for about 90 days, longer only if the town has blocked that address.

Questions or requests

To ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or removed, email hello@pelora.app. Where the information belongs to a town, we'll work with that town on your request.

Changes

If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
